Slack integration

Create tasks, receive notifications, and automate workflows

Overview

Vaiz is a project management platform that brings tasks, documents, and workflows into one place. The Vaiz Slack integration bridges the gap between your project management and team communication — so your team can stay in Slack while keeping work organized in Vaiz.

With this integration, you can create tasks directly from Slack messages, receive real-time notifications about task updates, see rich link previews for Vaiz content, and set up automations that post to Slack channels when specific events happen in your projects.

Slack integration with VAIZ

Key benefits:

  • No context switching — Create and manage tasks without leaving Slack
  • Stay informed — Get instant notifications about task assignments, comments, and status changes
  • Automate workflows — Trigger Slack messages based on project events like task moves or new assignments
  • Full visibility — Stream project activity to dedicated Slack channels so the whole team stays in the loop

Pricing

The Slack integration is included at no additional cost with all Vaiz plans, including the Free plan. No separate purchase or subscription is required to connect Vaiz with your Slack workspace.

How to install

The Vaiz Slack integration is installed from within the Vaiz platform. Follow these steps to get started:

  1. Sign up for a Vaiz account at vaiz.com (or sign in if you already have one)
  2. Open your Space and navigate to App Center → Apps → Slack
  3. Under the Personal tab, click Connect to authorize Vaiz with your Slack workspace
  4. (Optional) Under the Space tab, connect a Space-wide integration for team automations and history events

Once connected, you can immediately start creating tasks from Slack, receiving notifications, and using link previews. See the configuration sections below for details on each feature.

Create tasks from Slack

Turn any Slack message into a Vaiz task in two ways:

  • Slash command — Type /vaiz-task in any channel to open the task creation dialog
  • Message action — Click the three dots menu on any message → select Create Task from Message to convert that message into a task

The task will be created in your Vaiz workspace with the message content as the description.

Notifications

Receive real-time notifications in Slack about task updates, comments, mentions, and more. You have full control over which notifications you receive — enable or disable each notification type individually in your personal settings.

Go to App Center → Apps → Slack → Personal → Notifications to customize your preferences.

When you paste a Vaiz link in Slack, it automatically unfurls to show rich previews for:

  • Documents
  • Tasks
  • Projects
  • Milestones
  • Boards

Automations

Build custom automations that trigger Slack messages based on Vaiz events. Examples:

  • When a task is assigned to a specific person → Post a message to a Slack channel
  • When a task moves to QA Ready → Notify the QA team channel
  • When a new task is created in a project → Alert the project channel

Set up automations in your board's Automation tab. Select "Send Message to Slack" as the action and choose the target channel.

History events

Stream project activity to a dedicated Slack channel. Keep your team informed about everything happening in a project — task creation, movements, assignments, status changes, and more.

Configure in App Center → Apps → Slack → Space → History events. Match each Vaiz project to a Slack channel.

Configuration details

The Slack integration is configured per Vaiz Space. Once you've completed the installation steps above, you can fine-tune the integration. There are two types of connections, each enabling different features:

Personal connection

A personal connection is created only for your account within this Space. It enables:

  • Notifications — Receive personal notifications from Vaiz in Slack
  • Tasks — Create tasks from Slack messages using /vaiz-task or message actions
  • Links — See rich previews when you paste Vaiz links in Slack

To connect: Go to the Personal tab and authorize Vaiz with your Slack workspace.

Space connection

A Space connection is shared across your entire Vaiz Space. It enables team-wide features:

  • Automation — Trigger Slack messages based on Vaiz events (configured per board)
  • History events — Stream project activity to dedicated Slack channels

To connect: Go to the Space tab and authorize Vaiz. Then select which Slack channels Vaiz can post to, and match your projects to channels.

You can connect multiple Slack workspaces to the same Vaiz Space if needed.

Permissions and data access

When you connect Vaiz to your Slack workspace, the integration requests only the minimum permissions necessary to deliver its features:

Permission
Purpose
Post messages to channels you select
Deliver automation messages, history events, and notifications
Read messages where Vaiz is mentioned or invoked
Process /vaiz-task commands and "Create Task from Message" actions
Unfurl links
Generate rich previews when Vaiz URLs are shared
Access workspace member info (display name, avatar)
Map Slack users to Vaiz members for assignments and mentions

Vaiz does not request access to your full message history, private channels you have not explicitly selected, or direct messages. All permissions follow the principle of least privilege — only the scopes required for the features above are requested.

Data handling and privacy

We take your data seriously. Here's how the Vaiz Slack integration handles information:

What data is collected: Vaiz processes Slack message content only when you explicitly invoke a Vaiz action (slash command or message action). We also store the mapping between Slack user IDs and Vaiz user accounts to enable notifications and mentions.

How data is used: Message content submitted through /vaiz-task or "Create Task from Message" is used solely to create the corresponding task in Vaiz. Notification preferences and channel mappings are stored to route messages correctly.

Data retention: Task content created from Slack messages is retained as part of your Vaiz workspace data for as long as your account is active. Slack-specific metadata (OAuth tokens, channel mappings) is retained only while the integration is connected and is deleted when you disconnect.

Your rights: You can request access to, export, or delete your personal data at any time by contacting us at [email protected]. You can also disconnect the integration at any time from App Center → Apps → Slack, which revokes all Slack OAuth tokens associated with your connection.

For full details, read our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Security

If you discover a security vulnerability related to the Vaiz Slack integration or any other Vaiz product, please report it responsibly to [email protected]. We take all reports seriously and will respond within 2 business days.

All communication between Vaiz and Slack is encrypted using TLS 1.2 or higher. OAuth tokens are stored encrypted at rest and are never exposed in logs or error messages.
