How to create and manage subtasks in Vaiz
Subtasks help you break larger tasks into smaller, trackable pieces without leaving the parent task. They stay connected to the parent task while remaining easy to manage individually.
Step 1. Create a subtask
Open a task and scroll to the Subtasks section.

Enter a subtask name, then click Create task or press Enter.

Step 2. Manage a subtask
You can update most subtask properties directly from the Subtasks table.
Change the group by clicking the current group and selecting a different one.

Choose a priority using the double-chevron icon.

Assign a type from the type picker.

Select an assignee from the member field.

Pick a due date, then click Apply to save it.

Attach a milestone or create a new one if none exist.

You can also open the the More actions menu (six-dot menu) to:
- mark the subtask as completed;
- add it to Favorites or unfollow it;
- assign or unassign yourself;
- change its type, dates, priority, assignees, or milestones;
- unlink the subtask from its parent task;
- open it as a page or show it on the board;
- view description history, copy its preview, or download it as a PDF;
- move it to another board or convert it into a milestone;
- duplicate, archive, or delete the subtask.

Step 3. Mark a subtask as completed
Click the checkbox to the left of the subtask name. Completed subtasks are marked with a green checkmark.
If a task contains multiple subtasks, a progress indicator above the table shows how many have been completed.

Step 4. Reorder subtasks
Hover over a subtask until the drag handle (six dots) appears on the right. Drag and drop the subtask to change its position in the list.

Step 5. Convert a subtask into a task
Open the subtask menu (⋮) and select Unlink subtask.

The subtask becomes a standalone task and appears in its current group on the board.

Step 6. Open a subtask separately
You can open a subtask in two ways:
- click its name in the Subtasks section of the parent task;
- click the subtask directly from the board if it is displayed there.

The subtask opens in the same task view as a regular task, where you can edit all of its properties independently.
