How to use blockers and dependencies in Vaiz
Blockers help you define dependencies between tasks so work happens in the right order. If one task cannot start until another is finished, you can link them using Blockers and Blocking.
Understand blockers and dependencies
Each dependency has two sides:
- Blockers lists the tasks that must be completed before the current task can move forward.
- Blocking lists the tasks that depend on the current task.
When you create a dependency, Vaiz automatically updates both tasks. For example, if task A blocks task B, task B will automatically appear in the Blocking section of task A.
Step 1. Find the Blockers field
Open the task and find the Blockers field.

Step 2. Add a blocker task
Start typing the task title.
- If the task already exists, select it from the list.
- If it doesn't exist yet, select Create task. The new task is automatically added to the board.

Step 3. Review added blockers
The selected task appears in the Blockers list.
- Use the checkbox to mark the blocker as completed.
- Use Add blocker to add more blocker tasks if needed.

Step 4. Manage blocker tasks
Hover over a blocker task and click the ⋯ menu.
From here you can:
- remove the connection;
- mark the task as completed;
- add or remove it from favorites;
- follow or unfollow the task;
- assign or unassign yourself;
- update the task type, dates, priority, assignee, or milestones.

Note: When you mark a blocker task as completed from the Blockers list, it is also marked as completed on the board.

Step 5. Add tasks that depend on the current task
Find the Blocking field.
Add tasks the same way as blockers:
- type to find an existing task;
- or create a new one if it doesn't exist.

Step 6. Manage blocking tasks
The selected tasks appear in the Blocking list. Use the checkboxes to mark them as completed, or select Add blocking to add more dependent tasks.

Hover over a blocking task and click ⋯ to access the available actions. The options are the same as for blocker tasks, including removing the connection and updating task properties.

Note: When you mark a blocking task as completed from the Blocking list, it is also marked as completed on the board.

Step 7. Open a linked task
Click the task ID to open the linked task in its own window.

Use the navigation arrows in the upper-left corner to return to the previous task.

Note: When you duplicate a task (вставить ссылку, когда будет опубликовано: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1qw6eHWP2D5WJkvxYTEJf-fHES--GtboV_87ykdk-8X0/edit?tab=t.0), blocker relationships are not copied. If a linked task is deleted, its blocker and dependency connections are removed automatically.
