How to use board framework templates in Vaiz

Vaiz lets you design your workspace exactly the way you need — with flexible boards, customizable fields, and powerful automation. But if you prefer to start with a ready structure, Vaiz also offers framework-based templates. These templates are pre-configured setups built around popular project management frameworks, helping your team get started faster while keeping full freedom to adjust. Current framework templates include Scrum, Kanban, Waterfall, RACI, Sociocracy 3.0, RAID log, and OKR — and new ones are added regularly, so check the framework library or browse the full template library for the latest options.

Each template includes default groups (columns) and task types (labels) tuned for the chosen methodology — but you can freely add new groups or types both during board creation and later as your process evolves.

How to access board frameworks

Framework templates become available when you create a new board inside a project. To find them:

  1. In the top-left corner, click the space switcher and choose the space where you want to work.

Below you’ll find an overview of all available frameworks and how they are implemented in Vaiz.

Scrum-style

What it is:

  • Scrum is one of the most widely used agile frameworks. It’s designed for iterative work and short delivery cycles — “sprints” — where teams plan, execute, review, and improve continuously.

How it works in Vaiz:

  • The Scrum-style board in Vaiz reflects the full sprint flow with stages from Backlog to Sprint Results. Default labels cover roles and task types like Bug, Frontend, Backend, or DevOps, helping teams organize work by category and track sprint progress visually.

Kanban

What it is:

  • Kanban focuses on continuous delivery and transparency of work. It’s ideal for teams that want to visualize flow, limit work in progress (WIP), and reduce bottlenecks.

How it works in Vaiz:

  • The Kanban board includes stages like Backlog, In Progress, and Review, with optional WIP limits to balance load. Task size indicators such as S, M, or XL help prioritize effort and maintain a smooth workflow.

Waterfall

What it is:

  • Waterfall is a linear project management model — each phase follows the previous one in sequence. It’s a natural fit for traditional teams, client projects, or structured agency workflows.

How it works in Vaiz:

  • The Waterfall board divides work into sequential steps like Requirements, Design, Implementation, Testing, and Release. Each task can be labeled by type or stage, giving a clear visual map of project progress from planning to delivery.

Sociocracy 3.0

What it is:

  • Sociocracy 3.0 is a governance framework for decentralized organizations. It focuses on shared ownership, consent-based decision-making, and continuous learning.

How it works in Vaiz:

  • The Sociocracy 3.0 board tracks proposals through stages such as Drivers, Consent Review, and Agreed. Task types like Proposal, Policy, or Experiment make it easy to follow governance processes and record collective decisions.

Objectives and key results (OKR)

What it is:

  • OKR is a goal-setting framework for aligning teams around measurable outcomes. It’s widely used to connect strategic objectives with actionable key results.

How it works in Vaiz:

  • The OKR board lets you track goals from planning to completion using columns like Todo, In Progress, Review, and Done. Labels such as S, M, or XL can represent scope or impact, helping visualize progress toward each objective.

RACI matrix

What it is:

  • RACI is a responsibility assignment framework that maps four roles to every task or deliverable: Responsible (does the work), Accountable (owns the outcome — only one person), Consulted (gives input before decisions), and Informed (notified after). It eliminates confusion about ownership on cross-functional work.

How it works in Vaiz:

  • The RACI matrix board uses project lifecycle phases as columns — Planning, Design, Development, Testing, Deployment, and Maintenance. Task types cover governance items like Decision, Deliverable, Meeting, Review, and Approval, and custom fields for each role let you assign R/A/C/I directly on every item.

RAID log

What it is:

  • RAID stands for Risks (potential threats), Assumptions (unverified beliefs), Issues (current problems), and Dependencies (external blockers). A RAID log centralizes all four so teams can spot what might derail delivery before it does.

How it works in Vaiz:

  • The RAID log board uses lifecycle columns from Open to Closed, with task types for each RAID category. Custom fields like Probability, Impact, Owner, Mitigation plan, and Trigger turn the board into a full risk register, and Related tasks links RAID items to the delivery work they affect.

How to choose the right framework

Start by considering your team’s workflow and goals.

  • If your work moves in cycles — try Scrum.
  • If you need continuous delivery — go with Kanban.
  • For structured projects with fixed requirements, choose Waterfall.
  • Teams practicing collaborative governance can benefit from Sociocracy 3.0.
  • OKR works best for setting and tracking strategic goals.
  • For clarifying roles and responsibilities on cross-functional projects, use RACI.
  • To track risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies throughout delivery, use RAID log.

Note: all frameworks in Vaiz are fully customizable — you can rename groups, add fields, automate transitions, and modify task labels as your processes evolve. This balance of structure and flexibility means you can start with a tested setup and gradually make it your own.

Experiment with different frameworks to find what fits best for your team’s workflow.
