How to use document navigation in Vaiz
For the basics of creating and editing documents, see How to create and work with documents in Vaiz. In this guide, we’ll focus on document navigation and the widgets that help connect related pages.
These tools are useful when one topic grows into several documents, and readers need a quick way to move through the structure without returning to the sidebar each time.
Step 1. Create connected documents
Open the three-dot menu next to a document in the left sidebar.

From here, you can create:
- Sub document — creates a nested document inside the current one
- Next sibling — creates the next document at the same level
- Previous sibling — creates the previous document at the same level

Step 2. Use Siblings navigation
The Siblings navigation widget helps you move between previous and next documents.
To add it:
- Open a document
- Type “/”
- Select Siblings navigation

The widget displays links to sibling documents and lets you quickly switch between them.

Note: this widget is available only inside documents.
Step 3. Use Document tree
The Document tree widget shows subdocuments connected to the current document, including nested levels.
To add it:
- Open a document
- Type “/”
- Select Document tree

The widget creates a clickable structure of child documents, so you can open related pages directly from the document.

Step 4. Use Table of contents
If a document contains headings, you can generate navigation for them automatically.
To add it:
- Open a document
- Type “/”
- Select Table of contents

The widget displays all headings from the document. Clicking a heading moves you directly to that section.

Step 5. Duplicate documents with or without subdocuments
You can duplicate a single document or copy it together with its subdocuments.
In the left sidebar, open the document menu and choose one of the options:
- Duplicate – to copy only the selected document
- Duplicate with sub documents – to copy the document together with its nested structure

The duplicated copy appears in the same document section.

This is useful when you want to reuse an existing setup without rebuilding it from scratch.
