How to use the Code view in Vaiz

The Code view shows all pull requests from your connected GitHub repositories and merge requests from your connected GitLab projects in one live list—both those linked to Vaiz tasks and those without a task.

The Code view in Vaiz

Step 1. Connect GitHub or GitLab

The Code section is available to all space members (excluding guests) when the Code power-up is enabled.

If your space doesn't have a code integration yet:

  1. Open Code in the left sidebar and click Open App center (or click the space name in the top-left corner and choose App center).
  2. Connect GitHub or GitLab (GitLab.com or self-managed).

Once connected, Vaiz automatically loads open pull and merge requests along with changes updated in the last 90 days, and keeps the list updated in real time via webhooks.

Need to connect GitHub first?
Follow our step-by-step guide to install the Vaiz GitHub app, grant repository access, and turn on automatic task linking.

Step 2. Browse pull requests and merge requests

Each row in Code displays:

  • Status icon — green for Open, grey for Draft, purple for Merged, and red for Closed.
  • Number and title — #number for GitHub pull requests and !number for GitLab merge requests.
  • Repository and provider — the GitHub or GitLab icon and repository path.
  • Author and branches — the author's avatar and username, followed by source-branch → target-branch.
  • Linked tasks — task keys (such as CORE-214) linked to the pull request manually or via auto-link by task key.
  • Last updated time and status on the right.

Click any row to open the pull or merge request in GitHub or GitLab. Use the three-dot menu on the right of a row to open it in a new tab or copy its link.

Open linked tasks

  • If a pull request is linked to 1 or 2 tasks, click the task key (for example, CORE-214) on the row to open that task in the right sidebar.
  • If a pull request is linked to 3 or more tasks, click the N tasks counter on the row to see all linked tasks and open the one you need.

Note: You only see linked tasks from boards you have access to. If a pull request is linked to a task on a private board you cannot view, that task is not shown on the row.

Step 3. Search and filter the list

Use the filter bar at the top of the Code view to narrow down changes:

  • Search — search by pull request title, source branch name, or number (for example, #418 or !128).
  • Repository — filter by one or more connected GitHub repositories or GitLab projects.
  • Status — filter by Open, Draft, Merged, or Closed.
  • Author — filter by the GitHub or GitLab author login.
  • Tasks — switch between All, With linked tasks, and Without linked tasks.

To reset all active filters at once, click the three-dot menu on the right side of the filter bar and select Clear filters.

Step 4. Choose which repositories are active in Vaiz

By default, every repository from your GitHub App installation is enabled. Space owners and managers can hide specific repositories so they don't appear in Code or task pickers:

  1. Open App center → GitHub.
  2. In the Repositories card, uncheck any repository you want to hide from Vaiz, or use the All repositories checkbox in the header to toggle all repositories in view.
  3. If your organization has 6 or more repositories, use the Search button in the list header to filter repositories by name.

When you uncheck a repository:

  • Its pull requests are removed from the Code view immediately.
  • It is hidden from the repository picker inside tasks.
  • New pull requests, branches, and commits from that repository are not auto-linked to tasks.
  • Existing links that were already attached to tasks remain intact.

Checking the repository again reloads its pull requests in the background.

Step 5. Manage the Code power-up

Space owners can manage the Code power-up in Power-ups → Code:

  • Personal tab — any space member can hide or show the Code item in their own left sidebar.
  • Space tab — space owners can enable or disable Code by default for the space, or restrict access for specific members.
